Many parts of Cumbria have been severly impacted by the flooding events of December 2015. Other than having to endure endless rainfall, we are fortunate in Penrith to have escaped the worst. You should have no difficulty at all in travelling by road or rail to Penrith and with a little planning there should be no impact on your holiday/break/stopover in Penrith at The Red Townhouse.
You may encounter some issues in travelling around Cumbria whilst you are here, either towards the Lake District or in The Eden Valley. The main problems are the A591 between Keswick and Grasmere which is closed due to landslides and damage to the carriageway, The bridge at Pooley Bridge on the A592 which has collapsed and the Bridge at Eamont Bridge on the A6 near Penrith which is closed due to damage to the supports. Diversions are in place, some of which are quite lengthy.
These problems are affecting buses as well and there are some changes to bus timetables and routes, e.g. from Penrith to Patterdale and Glenridding no longer goes via Eamont Bridge or Pooley Bridge.
The situation is constantly changing - a complete list can be found here Cumbria Road & Bridge Closures
